part 2 of the fat chunk contribution. i used my normal system of block-by-block separation to create all the grey in these pages … and after a couple of days of re-shaping and dragging and zooming and crying and cursing i have since learnt my lesson and have decided that photoshop may indeed be the answer.

a low resolution version of my contribution to jamie smart’s Fat chunk anthology issue 1 : robots.  I don’t know, i was in a hankering to draw hats.

sometimes the words exist first and then you know you have to draw it. and drawing tiny pigs is fun.

hmmm, post-dating stuff for your own birthday is weird. when you read this i’ll be in a birthday frame of mind, which in my case manifests as a level of unstoppable perpetrating – if there are no posts after this pleas take it on faith that i chose a poor course of action

There’s an idea i’m kicking around with, some kind of terrible victorians on the moon nonsense but soooo much more nonsense-y than i can explain. It lacks good central characters. It definitely has moon-slugs though. definitely.

The strip for issue 3 of the steampunk magazine. I misjudged the half-tone and it looks a bit dark on paper but on a monitor the back-lighting picks it up a bit. Female head-rivets blatantly nicked from a portrait by the marvellous Mister Sam.

A short strip that appears in the second edition of The Steampunk Magazine and in no way disparages people who believe that wearing smart-casual trousers and a white nylon shirt is still persuasively steampunk provided that one is sporting a pair of goggles. Oh come on! What did you expect? A medal? Your grandparents are probably more steampunk than you! Ha, which reminds me, me and me mum were sorting out their attic and she kept trying to slow down the process by actually looking at stuff (or talking. it’s a skill she has) when she finally got my attention (she may have used the word “damn it” which coming from my own dear mother is sort of equivalent to the dalai lama saying the word “fuck”) and produced her father’s portable picnic-ing stove. From the 1930′s. A now-rusted iron box for putting kindling in and a copper kettle for boiling water with, ready to be deployed for fresh cup of tea at any rural roadside. Yes, my grandfather will always have been more steampunk than i.

Anyway, it is in response to this trend towards donning goggles over one’s civvies and shouting “i’m steampunk” that i may have been bandying about the phrase “brown-goth”. Please feel free to deploy it at any time and to report back.
laters,

geof
